Good morning world! I am back from my mini vacation. I had quite the meltdown yesterday when I figured out how hard it is for me to relax. I have 4 weeks to perfect it, so I’ll keep trying!
This should have been my first clue that Cape Cod is not my type of place. Tons of fanny packs and farmer’s tans. The drive up wasn’t too bad. I got there around 3:00 and tried to find my friend’s house. I figured out how to get to the beach and used the visitor’s center bathroom. When my friend got out of work at 3:30, she showed me two of the beaches and drove me around a bit.
This sign at the first beach cracked me up! It was supposed to Thunderstorm all day, but it was beautiful from start to finish.
There have been sharks at the beaches around the cape, so my friend told me that she only goes in the water if she sees one seal. If there are more than one seal, there are probably sharks around. This was only one seal! The water at the beach was WAY too cold for me (I’m used to the bathwater of Florida), but the water on the other side of the cape (where the seal picture was taken) was nice and warm.
After the beach, we went out to dinner.
I got a black bean and portabella burger. When I ordered it, the waitress “broke the news” to me that it was a veggie burger. Clearly, I knew that and was fine with it. I’m pretty sure they cooked it in bacon. It had a distinct scent.
When we got back, I got to eat cherry tomatoes right off the plant. So fresh! So delicious! I love that my friend grows food. I don’t have a green thumb.
We topped the evening off with a hike.
Bunny! They don’t usually let you get so close.
The next morning, I decided to hit the beach!
I stayed on the beach for about an hour and a half reading ChiRunng. It was really nice to relax, but the later it got, the busier it was.
I got back to the house with a little color- not a terrible sun burn! This is success for me!
I ate a banana at the beach, then a peach when I got back and played with the dog.
For lunch, I cracked open some of my favorite pre-made vegan food..
(I actually look forward to having the rest of this for lunch today!)
The rest of my day was spent reading and *cough*cough* doing homework.
For dinner we went to this place called Sam Diego’s. I wasn’t impressed.
In case you think I’m vegan… this was a buffalo chicken quesadilla. I was highly disappointed in it. It wasn’t spicy at all! This disappointment didn’t stop me from eating the whole thing. At least I didn’t eat the blue cheese or the chips and salsa. Small victories.
More garden food! Because I complained about the lack of spice in my food, I was sent home with this habanero. I look forward to cooking with this bad boy!
Then I started on my way home. I tried to beat the gps. It told me I would be getting home at 8:49. I made it home by 8:33!
It made me think about the weight loss. I keep trying to “beat the clock.” Just like the GPS- I’m going to get there. I should just enjoy the ride.
We have to be out of the apartment this weekend, so we’re going to Vermont. Today, I have to finish my school work for the week and clean the apartment. I was going to hit the gym, but I did something to my foot and it gave me the excuse to skip. I’ll do some at home exercise and cleaning, but I need to make sure I’m good to go on Friday!
I’ll be bringing my actual camera this weekend unlike this trip where I just used my phone. I don’t plan on bringing my computer.. but we’ll see

Looks like a good time! Yikes about the sharks. Smart to look at the number of seals in the water.
Maybe having a meltdown is good because it’s part of the process. Now you can figure out how to relax and get back on track.
